Clear answers
Questions buyers and operators ask before they start
Who is KnownStock for?
Small operational teams that buy, store, move, count, assemble or dispatch physical goods and need a shared inventory record without implementing a full ERP.
Is KnownStock a WMS?
No. It supports warehouses, optional locations, transfers, counts and dispatch, but does not provide waves, slotting, cross-docking, 3PL orchestration or advanced warehouse automation.
Is KnownStock an MRP or MES?
No. Light production covers versioned recipes, planned component demand and partial runs. It does not schedule machines, labour, routes, capacity, WIP or OEE.
Does KnownStock support lots, expiry or serial numbers?
No. Version 1 deliberately excludes regulated lot, expiry and serial-number traceability. A barcode identifies an item or presentation, not an individual unit or lot.
Can a barcode scan change stock?
No. A scan resolves an item or presentation and may add to a draft line. Only an authorised confirmation creates inventory facts.
Can people work offline?
They can consult an authorised cached subset, prepare drafts, scan and capture count observations. Confirmation, approval, negative-stock authorisation and revaluation require the server online.
What is the difference between committed and allocated?
Committed is confirmed demand. Allocated is the subset tied to specific physical stock. Available-to-promise subtracts commitment; free-to-pick subtracts allocation, so the same demand is not deducted twice.
Do purchase orders increase physical stock?
No. They create expected incoming supply. A receipt or direct purchase document adds physical stock.
Do sales invoices remove stock?
A direct sales invoice can remove physical stock. An invoice derived from a delivery does not remove the same stock again.
How do two-phase transfers work?
Shipment removes quantity from the origin and places it in transit. Receipt removes it from transit and places it at the destination. The internal transfer does not change company-owned total quantity.
Can a count simply overwrite the balance?
No. A count stores observations, compares them with the confirmed record and applies only the difference that an authorised reviewer approves.
How are costs represented?
KnownStock uses exact decimal arithmetic and derives operational weighted-average value from inventory events. Unknown cost remains incomplete rather than silently becoming zero.
Does shipping handover remove stock again?
No. The sales delivery is the physical stock effect. Package, carrier, tracking and delivery states remain logistical facts.
What does the 21-day trial include?
Every v1 feature and up to 10 members, with no card required. Paddle is not involved until the Owner deliberately chooses a paid plan.
What happens after cancellation?
Paid access continues through the current period, then the workspace becomes read only. Search, reports and authorised exports remain available.
Can I export data?
Authorised members can export supported registers and reports as safe CSV and local PDF. Export remains available in read-only access.
Does KnownStock claim certifications or integrations?
No. The public site does not invent customers, integrations, certifications, ratings or performance statistics.
